I live in lufkin, thinking about heading to Houston county to give it a try. Bass fishing mainly. Any spotted bass? Any info?

It's been a few years since I fished there but the lake had some big bass in it. I fished the shoreline directly across from the ramp(marina told me to try there). Caught some nice ones fishing real slow with a stick bait(rogue). The islands are usually good (think lake record area). I remember some large stumps!!!

Topwater fishing around the big island this time of year is great in the low light hours. Like old man river said, there are some really big fish in there. Once the sun is up higher get in the stumps on the back side of the big island and fish a stick bait slow. The north half of the lake is filled with stumps and there are not marked boat lanes (it has been a while since I have been there - maybe this has changed, but I doubt it). You will tear your boat up if you try to run anywhere past the point across from the marina. The boat docks on this lake hold good fish too, if skipping a jig or senko is your thing.

Did not end up going to Houston county lake because of weather. Did go to Rayburn, only caught 5, biggest was 4.63.

We fished all day, I caught 10, my dad caught only 1. We fished crankbaits, spinnnerbaits, and tons and tons of soft plastics. First time out there so maybe fished the wrong areas. Fished water from 6in to 15 feet
