Just a little heads up. With the weather starting to cool off, Martin will become popular again with the bass fishermen soon. The lake is getting low so when you're around the ramp keep the motor tilted up some to avoid dragging the skeg. I took my normal path through the hot water cut but hit stumps this time so just be aware. Hopefully we will get some badly needed rain this fall.

I thought being a power plant lake they had to have the water at a pretty normal level??? Draining from other lakes like Monticello and Bob Sandlin or Welsh and LOP. Is there not one for Martin?

I have always heard that Texas power plants lakes are considered "constant level" lakes. I believe that constant level is somewhat of a moving target. My favorite lake, Lake Bastrop, is always up or down, and it's mostly down. All you have to do is look at the wooden boards around the courtesy docks. Sometimes the water is three feet below the walkway. Sometimes is almost up to the walkway. I have heard more water level stories about Lake Bastrop than you can shake a stick at. Fall draw-down, Winter draw-down, Spring draw-down, Summer Solstice, Winter Solstice, Election Year, Black Friday, Daylight Savings Time, Leap Year, etc, etc. It never makes any sense.

Now that you mention that I agree. But Monticello (I have fished this lake since I was 6, now am 20) was/is usually above normal. The one dock that is there I have seen the water down but usually you cant see under it and sometimes its almost under water. I dont know about summer time when the water is 95-100 cause I don't ever go then but I guess its just the matter of who wants the level when.

The only place that Martin gets water from is pumped in from the Sabine river or from one of the three creeks feeding the lake. The pump station cannot keep up with the normal evaporation loss. The water level will fluctuate wildly on that lake. I've seen that lake come from 7+ feet low to nearly full pool in a few days. Thanks to the OP for the warning everyone about the ramp. I would also add that the lane of the ramp farthest away from the dock is breaking off. I would suggest using the lane closest to the courtesy dock.

Glad you mentioned the broken off ramp...I found it last week the hard way. The Sabine River pump station was installed back in 2011 in an effort to keep the power plant from shutting down due to low lake levels.... problem was the Sabine was so low that the pumps were just sucking sand. Also, all but one of the buoys around the well head are missing so heads up.

Does anyone have a current water temp at Martin Creek?

Was there last week and the temp around the RR bridge was high 70's I believe. They had two units running and the bite was good. The last rain did not affect the lake level any. Hopefully the rain yesterday and today will have brought it up some.
