We fished from around 0700 until around 1500 hours. Caught fish on or right off of trees early, and then between trees and around shallow drop-offs that went from 2-6'. We caught a couple dozen with the nicest just over 5lbs. Most fish were caught on soft plastics.

Nothing beats a good day of fishing; sounds like you had one.
If you don't mind mentioning, what kind/color of plastics and how were you rigging them? I'm trying to learn Fayette after a couple of unsuccessful days there. Thanks.

Try your favorite Baby brush hogs and brush hogs Florida rigged (pegged should work fine too), trick worms rigged wacky style or pegged, shaky heads, and senko's. I've had luck with watermelon seed, black & red, watermelon red, and a few similar ones. Surprisingly I did not get a bite on California 420 or cotton candy although I probably would have had I stayed with those long enough. I hear other people fish pumkin colors there quite a bit but I don't chunk punkin's myself.

Next time out I'm thinking of using a drop-shot or chicken [censored] rig to work the trees and adjacent flats. Really you can't go wrong... I've only had one bad fishing day there in the past two years. Sometimes you do have to work hard for a bite, but keep at it.

I forgot to add: We caught a few of the nicer fish out a bit deeper but those bites were a bit slower. I'm sure the bigger fish will be holding off of deep points soon.

Watermelon red soft plastics, senkos, flukes, rattlesnakes, snake-o's fished t-rig or c-rig...really all you need. The crankbait bite is a lot of fun there, chartreuse blue back, they hammer cranks.

Haven't been to Fayette in years but thinking about making a trip in the near future.
I've read in the past that there was a problem with buzzards snacking on trucks in the parking lot. Is that still the case?

I had a report that the grass is gone. Surely not, have they put those blasted grass carps in there or is this report bogus?

I have had that problem at Park Prairie. I've been using Oak Thicket without an issue.

There is very little above water reeds left. Grass is patchy and non-existent if you compare to Bastrop.
