Took my neighbor fishing on the Sabine River and bayous around Orange. We managed to boat about 30 bass and a couple of trophy grinnel before a 2PM quitting time.

Low and slack tide suspended the fish out in the bayous and ditches away from the bank. Water temps were 68-70 deg. Air temp was up to 78 deg (tough winter!). Best baits were TR worms and creature baits, square bill CB's, and chuggers. The main key to success was finding the clearest water in the area, although we were able to catch a couple of fish along the main river.

It's always important to check the tide tables whenever you plan to fish tidal portions of the Sabine River. The ideal day would be one in which the tide starts going out early in the morning just after you arrive at the mouth of your favorite bayou or drain.
