Anyone else get caught in the weather today? About 1730 the wind blew in about 40 mph with no warning and we all had to duck in the cove to weather it out. Craziest I've seen in a while. Got in the cove and saw the top of a truck at the bottom of the ramp. I'll try and post a pic.

Wow. That's crazy. Glad you made it off safely. Did you catch anything though?

Most all the weather forecasters were reporting that there would be afternoon and evening thunderstorms, so there really was warning.
When they give those reports it's generally for the area as they can pop up just about anywhere.
The remnants of tropical storm Bill are still with us, and probably will be for a few days, and the weather forecast are again today for a thunderstorm in the afternoon/evening.

Just one more cast!

I'd love to know what weather report you saw that called for sustained 40 mph winds. We caught some nice blues in the 30 minutes we got to fish so it wasn't a lost cause. We did see a few other boats go out with us to escort in some smaller boats we weren't sure we're going to make it back in. The game wardens were on the water and ducked in a cove hiding out too.

2nd post said there was a warning. Wasn't catastrophic, I knew some rain was coming but my radar showed it west of the i35 corridor. Wasn't expecting what we got but with the exception of the top of the red truck floating at the ramp, seems everyone was just fine.

So I don't get caught without warning, I check the weather forecast the night before and if it calls for thunderstorms I check it before I leave for the lake. Once I get to the lake I check every hour or so for updates to include the NWS Southern Plains radar. Oncoming weather is hard to track on local radar because most cell phones don't have Flashplayer so you can't track the weather. However, with the Southern Plains radar you can track thunderstorm movement without FlashPlayer but realized that there is a 10-15 minute delay as the radar recycles. I have found this website to be very important especially on limited or crowded boat ramps. I am normally in an boat loaded while there is a traffic jam at the boat ramp when the weather hits. Smart cell phones have changed my life on the water. I did find it strange that the NWS didn't issue a Thunderstorm Warning on that one.

Agree. Had they called for what we encountered I would have stayed home. Live and learn but we did mark a lot of fish. Hopefully we get them this week
