I have a pond on my lease that was covered in duck week. We started getting rain after the 2014-2015 season, the pond flooded out and I lost all of the duck weed. I thought it might come back but it hasn't. I've been scouting out some back water, near the river, that is loaded with it. If I net out a few 5 gallon buckets from that location and scatter it back into my pond, will it live and multiply?

I put just a couple pieces in a small tub pond - about 12 pieces, not much. It now covers half the pond (200 pieces) and it's only been 3 months max. Again, this is a small patio pond with a couple fish but still, stuff took off!

DON'T LITTER!

Duck weed is pretty hardy, so it should make the trip and live in the pond. I would be careful doing it in the hot part of the day, it might boil and die in the buckets before you can get it to your pond. Also I'd check to make sure it's legal with your local game warden. They are really cracking down on aquatic species transport lately.

I will check with the game warden and see. I guess the argument could made that when ducks land in there, they could transport it to other places. But that would apply to every lake in Texas. All of the lakes I've been to to is loaded with duck weed in the creeks. I want it to cover the entire pond again. You couldn't beat the gadwall out of that place.

Meadowlark said a mouthful. It is one of the most invasive aquatic plants around. I don't want it anywhere in the vicinity of my place.
