I need a large water pump to pump water out of a river into a pond that is about 200 yards away new or used can anyone help me

A 4 inch pump can be rented for about $350 a week. 200 yards of hoses will cost more than the pump cost, probably $500 a week. A 4" pump, pumps 30,000 gallons an hour. United Rental probably has an office in Temple. The challenge is pumping water that far. Best to be going down hill or a flat surface. Call a rental company for advise.

not sure how big the pond is, but there are 325,000 gallons in an acre foot. So, the 4 inch pump would fill a 1 acre pond, 1 foot deep in 21 hours. If the ponds depth is 7 feet, you would basically have the pump going 24 hours a day (assuming a few hours a day of downtime when it runs out of fuel) for a full week to fill a 1 acre pond that is 7 feet deep.

Most folks don't understand how much water it takes to fill a "pond". Small water pumps 3 inch and smaller are really impractical in filling ponds, unless the pond is very small. I hear quite often, I will run my pump to fill the lake, the reality is most small pumps can't even keep pace with evaporation in the summer time.

The other option is to spend a lot more money and get a 6 inch pump. Now your in business.

How big a pond?

If anything over an acre and six feet deep, 6 inch is going to be your best bet for 200 yards of hose. Anything bigger would be cost prohibitive, any smaller, like the 4 inch mentioned, and you'll wear the pump out before the pond is full.

My 30 acre reservoir is filled with a 12 inch stationary pump with a 4 cylinder diesel and still takes two days to get one foot.

Sometimes you can find a deal on a used 6 inch, but they can go for around $20K-$50K new. Rental for the pump, suction and discharge hoses might be the best way to go.
