Do any of you use live bait for going after big bass?

If you are using bluegill, what is the biggest you will use?

If you are using little bass, could you use one longer than a bluegill due to the difference in body shape?

Anyone ever use frogs?

A) Freeline (drift)
B) 3-Way swivel with use of large weight

I always use artificial baits on Large Mouth Bass. I will also advise you not to use LMB as a bait. It's against the law!

I fish on the family property.

I should have clarified that.

The other baitfish I could use is tilapia.

Live bait is a pain the rear to use. It fishes very slow and is messy. I typically only do that if I'm going after highly pressured trophy fish. On private water, you might seriously be costing yourself fish per hour by using slower to present live bait.

If you are going to use live bait though, no need to look past waterdogs, shiners, and crawfish.

I have drowned literally 1000's of live waterdogs over the years at Monticello in the winter. There is no better bass bait IMO but they are not easily accessible due to the short time they are in their larval stage before becoming a tiger salamander.

I think the second best bass bait would be a 6" gizzard shad but they are hard to keep alive.

I think a live bluegill or perch would be a close second to shad and much easier to catch & keep alive.

Here a shot of a rather large bluegill that swam up to my boat last Nov at CB. I'm 6' 1" so open your hand and hold it up to this pic and you get the idea of how large this thing really was. Look closely and you can see the shape of the bass' mouth that it came out of.
