Great day of fishing today. Perfect amount of wind but could have used a tad less heat.

Nonetheless the fish were on fire today. Caught my very first small mouth that went 3.97 pounds @ 19.75".

I was super pumped and shakey after finally landing it. My wife said, "why are you shaking"....psshh. Silly woman. That fish fought harder than any fish I can remember in the last many years. Good times.

Glad you found them. Very nice fish. Thanks for sharing.

I am guessing they were on a hump or deep water contour?

Congrats! Three point nine seven is bigger than any smallie I ever caught!

Caught a bunch of them on Champlain and upper state Maine on the Penobscot River but none of them went over 3 pounds. frown

Great fish tx.

Smallmouth are fun. I occasionally catch them but in Texas they are not as numerous.
I remember when Squaw Cr had them. You could get a nice stringer some days by just running straight to the dam when it first opened and fish a spinnerbait slowly. Best one I heard of was over 20 pounds and I have had a couple that went that while fun fishing. I imagine they just did not reproduce on that lake since you don't catch them there anymore.

The one bass I've yet to catch or even see in person is a smallmouth, and it is a goal this summer to do so at Belton/Stillhouse.

That's a nice smallmouth for sure! Have any pics? What lake if you don't me asking?

They fight like a 3 pound bass on steroids. I say 3 pounds, because a bigger largemouth just doesn't fight as hard as you'd think. A smallie? They love acrobatics. Crazy ADHD bass!

Looks like a great time....congrats on the smallmouth. Fun fish to catch and that lake has some big ones in it.
