I don't know what model bullet your looking at but they are a lighter boat. They will get blown around a little more but they are faster. I personally don't think they will be as good in rough water as the phoenix because the phoenix is heavier and won't get bounced around in the waves as bad. It may not be a huge difference. Both boats are good quality and both look really good. I would be happy with the XRS and I already have a phoenix and I love it

Bullet blows around in the wind so if u fish a lot, You will want power poles or talons. I fishedin one all day yesterday with zero issues. Now they do tend to spider crack the glass in places and are thin so cant take the beating like other boats do. The fuel tank is in way of pretty much everything in the back so changing a pump sucks!!

Now the Phoenix is a workhorse. I wouldnt b afraid take it anywhere and not have to worry about it. Better storage system and a lot better fuel cell vs pump mounting also

The 21 foot bullets ride fine in rough water but the wind blows them around quite a bit more. The phoenix will no doubt fish better than the Bullet, this coming from a bullet owner.

I like the simplicity of Bullets. All my electronics are controlled by regular ole toggle switches. No touch pads or special switches to go bad.

Dislikes, the way the wind blows it around and the deck gets crowded if you have a few rods laying out on it. But that is what it takes to get a 22ft boat to run 80 tournament loaded with a 250.

Good points above. Phoenix might fish a tad better, but dont let anyone tell you a Bullet wont fish just fine because anyone that says that hasnt fished from one. And also if you stay with 21xd or 21xrs dont let anyone tell you they dont ride good either, Ill actually give the nod to Bullet. A long boat like that thats light doesnt impact as hard but the length lets it span waves at 22 feet long. Now, I have the shorter 20 foot Bullet. I personally (at least with my fishing styles and preferences) LOVE it. Never have wanted for more storage. Deck is plenty big to fish 2 up front so Im good there. And Im not hesitant to ride in it anywhere. Shoot me a PM if you ever wanna ride. Wont go wrong with a Phoenix by any means, good boats. But something about a 100% hand laid boat and the craftsmanship and quality of it appealed to me. And I wasnt disappointed.

+1

Phoenix are great boats if you can find one. They are a little behind on production. I have fished from the 920 & 921. Very nice fishing platforms and run very well for the size & weight boats they are. You would not go wrong buying one.

Bullets are lighter and faster but do blow around more in the wind as some have pointed out. I've owned a few (3-20' & 2-22') to be exact. The 21XRD is almost 22' long and is as good a rough water boat as they come. The front decks are a bit narrow compared to the Phoenix but you get used to it.

The nice thing about Bullets is the fact that they are true custom built to order boats. You can get any color combo you want. Storage is plentiful in either boat.

My last one was the 21XRD with a Merc 300XS. I sold it to a good friend that lives near me. If you want a ride in it I am happy to arrange it. It will run 86-88 Loaded with two guys. It has twin PP's on back too.

Both are great boats. Loved the 21XD I had. People seriously underestimate the rough water ride of a Bullet. Its very good.

I too owned a 21XD and it was a great rough water boat and great boat to fish out of. As far as storage I used the center storage area for my rod and reels and the side storage areas for tackle etc. I could put about 30 rod and reels in that center storage area and loved it and wished more boats had that arrangement. I also owned two Bass Cats and a Ranger 520 and would own any of these boats again.

Good overview here showing storage, layout, etc.

Bullet 21XRS

Pros:

Simple design on switches and controls. I like that alot. I lost almost a full day of fishing in last weeks Costa series due to a touch pad issue in my current boat. No power to graphs, livewell pumps, bilge, lights, etc. On a Bullet, each switch controls one function.

Ride on the 22' Bullets is as good as any current boat on the market. 22 degree deadrise is much steeper than others. Cuts waves and settles soft.

Fun factor.

Cons:

Narrow front deck. It takes a bit of getting used to, but not that big of a deal overall.

Gas tank over the pumps. They've changed the hatch layout and it's easier to access the bilge area now.

No place for in dash graphs. However most are going to single and double mounts now anyway.

Bullet: Smaller deck, poor compartment design/storage, blows around in wind.

Phoenix: Rides better in rough water, doesn't get blown around in wind, better storage and compartment design.

Just my 2 cents...

Bullets are light but thats why they are so fast. I think they use balsa core? and not composite for their transom and stringers so theres that to worry about if you plan on keeping one long term.

There are tons of older Bullets still out there being used with zero issues. One of the best built boats you can buy. Its rare you hear of any Bullets even older ones with any of the issues you bring up. They hold their value decently as well.
