I want to purchase some line to give to a fishing buddy as a gift. He doesn't have a specific line he likes. He won't use braid though I have tried to convince him, goes through a lot of line, and fishes spinning gear. Recommendations appreciated.

Don't use P-Line CXX, terrible line twist on spinning gear

10lb coated copoly Either Hiseas fluoro coated copoly Or Yozuri Hybrid
Keep trying to change his mind on the braided linemakes fishing with spinning gear so much more enjoyable.

I was like your friend for many years. As braids improved, I tried braid again. I now use 30# P-line TCB (Teflon Coated Braid)with a copolymer leader, joined with a uni knot. The braid eliminates line twist, prevents stretch, and gives much better sensitivity. If this old timer is convinced, he will be, too. (And I'm talking about spinning gear).
In memory of my childhood friend Dan Sterling, who taught me at an early age how to catch bream with a hand-line, and who unknowingly hooked me on fishing for life.

My two go to lines are Daiwa Samurai, and seagur Tatsu. I use Samurai for anything bottom contact and Tatsu for any reaction type bait.

I use McCoys Mean Green copoly for almost all my situation, except for braid. GREAT forgiving line and has a good amount of stretch to it. VERY abrasion resistant and strong as an ox for what lb test you get. Hope this helps. Tight lines, keep safe and good luck.

The reason he goes thru a lot of line is because he doesn't use braid. Tell him to try 15# braid with a fluoro leader. When the Good Lord invented braid He had spinning reels in mind! Once he gets used to it he will never go back.

McCoys Mean Green sounds like a great option for him. I am a super slick power pro braid guy to a flouro leader on spinning set ups and straight flouro on baitcasters, but I just tried McCoys mean green on my bait caster and it is an interesting line. It is almost like a piece of string in the sense that it has no twist at all. Peel a bunch off your reel and it will lay down on the ground like rope. Maybe all copolymers do this but I find it unusual, but not necessarily in a bad way... just different. Seems like that would make it work great on spinning set ups.
The 10 lb test I have is very strong. Id give it a try. Its not as sensitive as flouro, but it does have some stretch and it is way cheaper.
As for flouro, I really like 12 lb invisx... the red box seagur is a waste of money IMO...

^^^ This! next thing would be 10lb Seagaur INvisx.. but no bigger. I switched to 30lb braid and 12lb Invisx leader all my spinning rigs. Will never go back to non braid on my spinning rigs. BD
