I'm wanting to build a nice deep cranking setup and I'm having issues finding a nice low gear reel. It seems everything these days is super high speed. The best I can find is a Shimano Calcutta Conquest, but I'm not sure I want to spend nearly $600 on a reel.

any suggestions?

Lews super duty. It should be available in a slow enough gear for crankbaiting.

Lew's BB1 (5.1:1) or Abu Garcia REVO Winch (5.4:1).

Revo Winch Gen 3 or Gen 4. I played around with others but once I bought my first winch I bought more to replace the others I had played around with. Great for 6-10XDs or any other cranking you want to do. Good luck!

Lews BB-1 (5.1-1) is the best deep cranking reel in that gear ratio, in my opinion. This reel can cast a crank bait a super long way and it is easy to crank. I have three of them in a 5-1, a 6-1 for med. and shallow baits and a 7-1 for small wake baits and top water baits. Awesome reels for moving baits.

If you are wanting a heavy duty round reel the Daiwa Luna 203 or 253 are good ones. I have both but I use them for large swim baits. They are all metal so they are quite a bit heavier than the BB-1.

I have the revo winch and honestly I prefer my orra winch over it. Had thought about ordering the revo x in the low gear just haven't pulled the trigger yet.

Plus 1 on the Revo Winch.. very smooth reel and handles deep divers really well.

For really slow gear ratio, find a Shimano Curado 200B38 3.8:1 Gear Ratio or for a little faster Curado 200B5 5.1:1 Gear Ratio. These are the older green Curado.Usually find them on Ebay. They are very dependable and basically bullet proof.

I have Orra Winch and BB1. Prefer the Orra for cranking. It fits my hand better. I wouldn't stress to much over reel speed. You can always slow your retrieve down. Just get a reel that holds more line.

I'd see probably Revo Winch as my first choice. Even a Lews Super Duty or BB1.

Also check out the Concept A and Concept C from 13 Fishing

Agree with the Orra Winch. Specs are almost identical to the Revo version.
