Time for renewal on boat insurance. Is agreed value policy the best way to go? Thanks!

Agreed value is the ONLY way to go if it is an option.

Just remember that agreed value policies only pay out more in a complete loss. Hitting a stump, trailer damage, knocking a hole in the boat, knocking off a lower unit....... it pays the same. How many total losses have you heard of?

That may work well on a little older boat. I'm talking about a very nice boat but older and they don't want to pay anything when it gets killed. This older boat may have been updated with new seats, carpet and so on. If it's worth more than the book shows you may need to make an adjustment. If the insurance co. will go along with you. You may need to show them some invoices on the money you dumped into the boat.
TAKE A PHOTO HOME NOT THE FISH. CATCH AND RELEASE Set the hook first and ask questions later.

We see about one total loss a month. Its in your best interest to pay for a agreed value policy. You don't have to agree on a value that's way above the actual value. If its a $15000 boat insure it for $20000. That will make sure all your electronics and everything are paid for. You will be paying around $60 a year more in premiums. Always make sure you have enough coverage on your trailer. Most only insure the trailer for $1000-$1500 and that wont buy any good trailer.
