I love this Stanley Ribbit Frog as well as the Stanley Top Toad. I started off with the double hook that Stanley makes and my hook up ratio wasn't very good. My friend swore to me I needed to try a single hook instead and when I did my ratio went WAY up. I don't know if it's the fact that maybe I slowed down on the hook set some and got more calm as the day went on or if there is something to it. I probably was hooking up 60% with the double hook and 90% with the single hook. That includes losing a lot of fish with the double hook half way in, would have them hooked for a bit then off they came. What do you guys use? BTW, heavy action 7'3 rod and 65 pound braid and I'm crossing their eyes good. I really like that Top Toad a lot by the way!

I use the Top Toad and I haven't had many hook up problems. The only issue I have is when you buy the Stanley double take hooks separately they weigh too much and cause the Top Toad to sink. The one that comes in the package with the 2 Toads works perfectly. What kind of single hook did you use? I am interested in trying it myself!

I prefer the double hook. Only issue I have is it just a hair to big for the frogs and can be hard to rig back into the bait so you have to pinch the hooks a little closer rogether

Zoom makes/made a good one for their Horny Toad. Buy a non weighted 5/0 swimbait hook with a bait keeper on it. I also am not a fan of the double hooks. I love the singles

I had the opposite results. I have much better hookups with the double hook over the single.

Ok here is my knowledge on the subject. I was fortunate to have the opportunity to work with Stanley from the start of the top toad. I can vouch the newest frogs (poured in house) are the absolutely the best. The new frog has less plastic in the top of his butt.
To hook and rig the frog. It's best to bend the double hook out so that the hook is on the outside of the body. The top toad has the best hook up ratio of all frogs in my research.

How do you know what the new top toad is compared to the old?
