Just returned from a week at Salto. Lake was about 45% pool, weather was hot and mostly calm winds. Numbers were way down compared to the trip in May when we set the bar for total caught. Vast majority of the fish were caught way up in the north end of the lake. Best producers were the t-rigged lizard and mag senko. Also, the 1/2 oz scrounger with a super or mag fluke is still producing quite well. Morning bite was quite a bit better than the afternoon. Only caught 1 bass over 10 lbs on this trip. Caught 20 or so over 7 lbs. Plan to go back in mid August if the rains don't wash us out.

Have been reading excellent stuff on this lake......how big of fish are to be realistically expected on a 3+ day trip to this locale?..

We all stumble and make mistakes. When you stumble, do you want your brother to help knock you down or to help set you back on your feet?

To the best of my knowledge, Lake record is 18+. Realistically, anyone with above average skills can expect to have a shot at fish in the 8-12 lb range. Bear in mind, having one on and actually landing one are two different things. Typically, folks are about 30% at landing big fish initially. Over time, and with more experience, this will increase to 60-70%. This is my personal opinion based on approximately 30 trips to Salto.
