I'm headed to Belton in a few weeks and have never been there before. We will be staying at Cedar Ridge Park and will be launching from there. With the weather the way it is and water temps hopefully dropping a little, where should I be targeting out there? What areas of the lake? From what I understand it is a deep lake with a lot of vertical drops. Any help is appreciated.

In a few weeks it will be a shallow bite. Your typical fall pattern will produce quality fish. The shad population is huge right now and the whites and hybrids have been terrorizing them all over the lake. If you want to have some fun go follow them around with a topwater.

I was out there Saturday and it seemed like everyone was banging the banks. I had some luck with a shad colored rippin rap and t-rigged blue fleck berkley power bait. They were mostly on the smaller size.... Where you are staying is kind of central so thats a good thing. I personally like fishing the North end up to the 36 bridge and then also come back down to the north side of the largest/main body portion of the lake. Are these the "hotspots"? heck, i dunno.... im just passing on spots where i have had some luck. Lots of places to fish on Belton as most areas look alot like the next... good luck and have fun.

Well I'll be there the weekend after that so I'll miss a chance at the class. I'm hoping that the water will have cooled down enough that the shallow bite will be on pretty good.
