Mine was really good. Think is was a 2009. I had it on a Tr22 Triton and it ran really well. 81.3 on GPS with just me and a light load. That's hauling the mail for a boat that size. Never had a lick of trouble from her.

I didn't know there were any bass boats rated for a 300hp motor. How risky is it to just slap on a 300 if the boat is rated for maybe 250? And is it tough to find a boat shop willing to do that?

A lot of ZX250s have 300 HPDIs. My dad has a 2008. He's never had any trouble from his.

My 21i has a 300 on it. Runs 75 in this current weather. No problems at all. I go over it after each weekend to make sure all bolts are good and tight. Trim housing bracket bolt backed out one time, so I had to replace it (and loc tite it)

A lot of boats have a 300 horse power rating and well suited to run it safely..... I was really surprised at the amount of people that told me my 20i was "unsafe" with the 250 on it when I was selling it......

As long as the boat is over 20', you are into unlimited horsepower. Now, the manufacturer may put a plate on your boat stating "recommended max" or "maximum" horsepower, but I believe this is more an attempt to limit their liability or warranty. My understanding is it is not a Coast Guard requirement on over 20' boats.

if you buy one with a 300 on better expect to have it a long time because they are hard to sell some tournament trails don't allow them.there is not that much difference in performance in a Yamaha 250 to a 300.

Saw a Bass Cat with a 400 on it. Guess if you can afford it they'll mount it. A 150 gets me everywhere I want to go and always on time.

Problem is that when you're looking at used boats you kinda get to buy what's available. You can't pick and choose options.

I had an 2005 300 HPDI. Best motor I ever owned, my guess the best I ever will. It was one strong motor and no problems. I liked the HPDI's better than the mercs I run now.

Thanks, Billy

I know this motor will be a fuel hog, but what kind of comparison would it be against an old vmax 150 ox66? Half as many miles per gallon? 1 mile per gallon, 2mpg?

The ox66 is a gas hog compared to direct injection but imo the best motor Yamaha made
