I'm looking at the Garmin Striker 7SV to replace an old Lowrance 37X on the front of my boat. I have a Lowrance HDS 7 Touch at the console and would like to know what folks are thinking about the Garmin unit. I don't really need the GPS / Charting option up front and the Garmin looks like a pretty good deal. Any input would be greatly appreciated.

I love my garmin.. I have the 1040xs. Go to BBC and they have a Garmin board. Lots of good stuff

Thanks for the info. Don't really see many negative reviews, so thinking I'm going to give one a try.

I have 2 of the Striker 7SVs on my little boat at the lake house and they are great units for the price. Had them since April.

You said you didn't need GPS/Chartplotting, they have this but not Mapping.

One other thing on the Striker units, if you manually enter settings for each screen setting, like contrast, depth range, side imaging range, etc..., if you turn the unit off when you raise the trolling motor to move. You will have to reset everything back up on unit restart. I just leave mine on between spots to eliminate that problem if I've manually entered anything.
They work great in Auto also!

If you connect the power lead to ground on the battery, is there any need to run a ground to the crimp connector that comes on the display?

i wouldnt wast my money buying the sv model, i have the striker7dv up front and love it for the price.

If you tend to fish deep more than shallow, I would agree! The little lake I fish on is only around 100 acres and the deepest spot is about 14 feet, so I'm fishing a lot of docks in 8 foot or less. Side imaging works a lot better than down imaging in this situation, for me! There are a few spots on the little lake that I use just down imaging and traditional sonar, but very few. For under $500 it was well worth the money for my use! JMO
