Anybody know if one or the other is fishing better? I am going to be down in that area for business and will probably bring my boat and try one out since I've never been. Thanks!

I have been dying to get back to Fayette since returning from a 9 week stint in LA. I too have been looking for reports. I won't be able to go until sometime week after next. I'll post a report when I do.

Both are fishing good. If you have good electronics and can fish offshore go to Fayette.. pulled ~217 bass with the biggest at 6.28lb two Saturday's ago with a boat of 3 sticks.. Not our best day out there but close.

Bastrop is a year round good Frog and grass lake that you can just run the banks on.

I say we fish 5 days a week and work 2.

I'd try Fayette. To me, Bastrop has been off lately.

Haven't been to Bastrop in awhile, but Fayette fished okay last Saturday. It was CROWDED. I have a good little milk run of offshore stuff I like to hit in the summer and every single one of my spots had a boat camped on it all morning. Around 11 AM a good number of boats started to head in (it was getting hot). I was able to run some of my stuff and pick a few fish off those spots.

All this said, I do kind of have an itch to grab a frog rod and flipping stick and head to Bastrop....

Very true^^ Fayette is always crowded. You can't fish the obvious stuff there though most of the time, it's too pressured. Finding very subtle structure can put you on a school of 100 fish where one might think it's "dead water" the nice thing about it is that those fish are usually ready not bite anything because they don't see very many baits and those schools are more apt to staying fired up.

I do have good electronics, how is the offshore bite at Bastrop? I'm closer to Bastrop than Fayette.

Fayette is on another level though.. and if you know how to use downscan well it's definitely worth the extra drive. C-rigs, jigs and Deep diving cranks will put you on a ~25lb bag pretty much everytime.. don't know many lakes where you can do that.

If can be really good. But I almost always fish shallow there because I like to catch them on frogs and swim jigs. There are piles of them out deep in areas though. I went out there years ago with a buddy who was pretty dedicated to fishing offshore and we absolutely crushed them on carolina rigs. The big flat in front of the right side of the dam drops off into the main river channel eventually. Idle along that river channel edge with your electronics and you are bound to find a pile of them somewhere.

Thanks a lot guys, I didn't know Bastrop had that much grass and cover; but Fayette and a great offshore bite is enticing. I'll let you guys know how I do and what lake I chose after the weekend. Thanks again for the info!
