No, I had a 7 and it was tough to see split screen. Moved it to front of boat and bought a 9 for dash. Glad I did it. 9 is plenty big.

7 will work BUT as Der Vorsteher says it is tough to see detail on the split screen (I also need glasses but refuse to where them....). Mine came with it so I live with it. I would say if you can go large go large early! Go big or go home. Think of it this way, everyday you get older your eyes get worse......If I could afford a 52" screen I'd find a way to put in on there.

I've got a seven and I like it BUT I wear my glasses.

If it's all that you can afford then, yes it will work. If you can afford a bigger graph, then just bite the bullet and get it.

It will work just fine. That's all my dad has on his boat and I find plenty of fish with it. Yes it will be easier to see a bigger screen but get what you can afford, not what is "cool" at the time.

7 works fine for me, but I admit I'll probably still go bigger at some point.

I had a HDS 7 on my old boat because that was the biggest that would fit flush in my dash. It was OK but bigger is MUCH better. I have a Humminbird 1198 10" screen in my new (to me) boat and it is much easier to see.
Jury is still out on whether I like Humminbird better than Lowrance.

I have a HDS 5 and HDS9 at the wheel. I eventually will put a hds12 there and move the 9 to the front. The bigger the screen the better you can see things.

I have the HDS 9 on the dash and a HDS 7 on the bow.... I should of put a 9 up there as well. I'm 51 with bi focal glasses so on the deck seat im ok but standing up it can be a pain to see everything clearly. The 9 on the dash is plenty big though.

Thanks for the input. I would recommend that you go up one size (or more) if you can afford it and have space. You will be split screening often with map/depth or other combinations.

I didn't like the Lowrance 7 on my front deck. Too small.

7 is pretty small for split screen.
