If you had a choice between a used 998 hd or a brand new helix 7 for about the same price, which one? I want a upgrade to my current fishfinder. I'm looking for something close to this price range, about $650.
What's the difference between helix 7si and 9si. Besides two inches and $300.

When I had my birds setup by Slade, he told me that the 998 was the best graph hummingbird ever made. I have a 998 on my bow and love it.

I really like the 900 series units...I would probably lean that way due to the larger screen size, but either way is a good buy. The screen resolution and internal antennae on the helix are really nice to have, as you will have to install the external antennae with the 998.

Really looking for something with side imaging, doesn't have to be one out these. Just want the best bang for my buck.

No contest the garmin is hands down better with 2d

The 998 slipped through my hands. I'm looking at helix 9 and 7 now, both with si. Is the 9 worth the extra $300? Is the screen size the only difference?

One thing to check is if Humminbird still has parts for certain 900 series graphs. Called last week to send my 998 in to have cracked screen replaced and was told they don't have parts for it, don't fix them no more. Was told have to buy a new Helix.

Some things the 9 is compatible with that the 7 isn't. Networking to other units, 360 imaging, radar, ipilot link, navionics platinum. Also the 7 only has 1 SD slot where the 9 has 2. Maybe not a deal breaker for you but I like the option of adding a second map card or memory for screenshots etc. without pulling my map card out.

If you get the Helix 9, you will want to upgrade to the HD transducer.

If you get the Helix 9, you will want to upgrade to the HD transducer. Just FYI, if I am not mistaken, the HD ducers are on backorder until August for the swap out program that Humminbird has. I may be wrong on that, so please check with Humminbird.

I have a 998 on the bow and console and really enjoy them. When I get new ones I am going with the onix series. I really don't like how the cables hook up on the helix units. Seem really cheesy to me and I doubt they will stay on while I'm running rough water hard.
