I know there are some variables involved, but what size drop is best for pulling a boat trailer? I'm looking at getting a 4" drop.

everything is relative. Do you have a lift? Do you need a 4" drop? That might make you have to back in deeper at the ramp, and if you park somewhere that the underside of the ball/the bolt might drag.

+1 The one that positions your boat trailer close to level.

don't drop it any more than you need to.

My new, totally stock, Tundra 4x4 needed a 4 " drop. Trailer is 1/4" higher in front than the rear. Easiest way is to measure the trailer frame rail height from the ground and accommodate the difference between it and the receiver with an appropriate hitch.

On a side note, it is less critical on a single axle trailer, but a level trailer is still a good idea.

Your mfg should be able to tell you the correct distance from the ball to the ground. For example my Ranger is 17inches.

Take the trailer to a level parking lot. Chock the trailer wheels. Unhitch the trailer. Use a level to level the trailer frame. Measure to the toung. This is the correct height after the weight is on the truck
