What do most of you guys have, or prefer, on your boats? I am trying to decide on a Fortrex® 112F- US2, 36V, 45" Shaft or a 52" shaft.
I have heard a few pros and cons for both, just wanted to hear some from you guys from personal experience.

I've had one TM with a 52" shaft because I like to fish deep, even if it's windy. However, I will say that it gets in the way more when stowed and is a pita when trying to sight fish or get back into skinny water areas. I went back to 45" after selling the boat with the longer shaft.

I like my 45" on my Fortrex. If its coming out of the water in open water due wind, I probably am not liking the fishing conditions anyways. Would have needed a 70" in the 6 footers on Amistad this weekend. Wow!

I might as well have a 35" shaft on mine. It's always raised up a foot or so.
I hate photobucket.

I'm with Fouz.
On windy days, with a roll, gotta keep the unit in water.

I fish offshore a lot, and not long ago I had to put a new TM on. I went with 45",,, and I have been regretting not going with the 52" ever since to the point of thinking bout selling this one..

I had mine changed to 52", tired of the prop breaking the surface when fishing in the wind. 18 1/2' Nitro....

I like the 45", I had the 52" on the last boat. I always whacked the 52" with my lure on a roll cast.

Depends on brand of boat. I've found 52" is better on a skeeter and a 45" on a Ranger since the boats sit different in the water. Those are the 2 boat brands I've had the most experience with.

i have a Skeeter with a 45 on mine and its ok as long as its not to windy. the guy i bought it from had it 5 yrs. Now after two trips out, I just ordered 50" because i need it in the water when the waves are a rolling. so i agree with Bronco and Lewis V.

52" on Basscats. I'm 6'6" and the trolling motor head is out of my way even when raised.
