Looking for a new trolling motor. 24V. What's the best. Minnkota or Motor Guide. And why are their 45" and 52" shafts? Which one do y'all use. Never measured mine.

And if anyone has a GOOD used one let me know. I'll probably buy new but might consider used one if its in perfect condition. Going on 21 foot Nitro. And it's 36V not 24V

Minnkota vs Motor Guide. Chevy vs Ford Here's my take. I fish heavy standing timber and close quarter docks frequently. I feel the Motor Guide dual cable provides provides quickest response. Shaft length is determined by how high your bow is and how rough your water is. The higher your bow or rougher your water, the longer your shaft should be to keep your prop in the water. Others will have a different opinion.

I've heard great things about trolling motors with iPilot or spot lock, that locks you on a spot without you having to touch the pedal... If I were buying a new one, I would spend the extra money to get that for fishing out deep.
I think either MotorGuide or Minn Kota would be great units, but keep in mind Minn Kota syncs up with Humminbird and Motor Guide syncs with Lowrance. That might play into your decision.
If you keep your eye out on the classifieds, there are trolling motors for sale quite frequently.
