Was looking for something in an old file and ran across this 1971 Skeeter catalog showing the "All New Skeeter Fleet" and a picture from a trip my dad and I took to Lake Athens that year. If you've been there, you might recognize the view from what was then a marginal single lane ramp. I know, fish on a stringer, but that was well before there was such a thing as catch and release. Our boat was that skinny one in the background, a 14 ft Kingfisher with a big 20 HP tiller motor and 12 volt Silvertroll on the front. That boat seemed great at Athens but got small real quick when we made a trip to the "Black Forest" at Sam Rayburn later that year. Soon after, Dad bought one of the bigger boats in the then current Skeeter catalog and put a "huge" 85 HP on it. We thought we were going fast at 45 mph! Can anybody name all the Skeeters in the picture?

Man....those boats look down right dangerous! Haha.
Funny how guys like me yearn for late 60's and early 70's muscle cars, but those boats?.... I'd cringe.

The Red boat on the right side is a Skeeter Hawk and the Green one next to it is a Skeeter Metro.

I got this one from the original owner and he told me the motor was a 1958 and the boat was 1960 which never made any since to me. He didn't have a title and never had it registered.
The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.

Left to right on the catalog cover shot:
Original Skeeter with tiller steering
Skeeter Hawk without a fiberglass cap. We had a friend in Ft. Worth who outfitted one of these with a 150 HP in-line six Merc and raised fishing platforms, what a fishing machine. I bought one of this model right out of college. It really fished quite well in the wind with the lower sides and lighter weight.
Super Skeeter - longer, wider than the original and stick steering
Skeeter Magnum - wider & longer still and with stick steering
Skeeter Metro - again, a longer, wider stick steering boat. Ours was dark green cap and lighter green hull. Two tone boats were hot then. Metalflake was just about to show up on bass boats a few years later
Skeeter Hawk with a fiberglass cap - could be ordered with stick or console steering
Console steering models of the Hawk could be ordered with raised front and back fishing platforms, something seen in the Ranger boats of the early 70s. Bass Cat was getting going good around this time and starting to build a reputation as a real competitor to Ranger. In late '72 dad sold the Skeeter Metro and got one of the early Bass Cats in N Texas from Fishin World.

AdvTX my dad had one just like that that we fished out of when I was a kid. Started with a 10 horse Johnson and then he put an 18 horse Evinrude on it. That one looks like it is brand new. Has it been restored? Brings back a lot of memories.

I would love to find an old Super Skeeter in decent condition to buy. Been looking for one for a while now. If anyone has a lead on one, please let me know. Thanks

JimmyP - The fiberglass is all original but has been buffed out and waxed. I tried to buy this boat from a neighbor(original owner) for years and he finally sold it to me in 1997. Had the motor and trailer repainted. Thinking about pulling the boat down to TXPWD and seeing if they will title it.
The day after catching a lot of fish is still a good day.
