hope everyone read this report, great job by Barn. My question is,pretend Barn did not go that day, instead I went.same area, same time, just the way he fished, but with a blue flake worm,or a fluke,or a chaggar craw, would I have caught the same amount he did? Right area, different bait.

I rather be in the right spot with the wrong bait then the wrong spot with the right bait.

My thoughts are yes and no. The bites I seemed to be getting that day were reaction bites. About 1/3 of the bites occurred right when it hit the water next to a target. So I am thinking about anything that came crashing in was going to get bit.

However, for me Roberts seems to be a lake that seem to be very specific patterns on some trips. I mean a specific type of bait, fished in a specific type of cover or structure at a specific depth. There are some days where you might get 10 bites on 10 different baits. However, for me, a lot of times you have to stumble on the pattern. Then you can about call your shots. A few trips ago the only thing I could get bit on was a black/chartreuse Little John. The trip before was red craw Bomber Flat A on rock piles. I have had days where it was a spinnerbait on lay downs only, wacky senko on pole timber, etc.

On Saturday I tried lipless, squarebill, jig, buzzbait, frog, craw and senko in addition to the chatterbait. I also fish in pilot point cove, airplane, hog pen and Indian. I had one fish in Indian on the wacky senko late in the day. Everything else was in Buck Creek and Clarks Cove area on the north side, secondary points. Nothing on the south side.

I am not sure if that really answered anything... However, it boils down to confidence. If you have a lot of confidence in the bait you are throwing and the area on any given day then you have 10x better chance of having a successful trip. Thus, if you don't have confidence in a chatterbait then you may not have caught any fish on that day. You would have better off with a blue flake worm.
