I was out at the lake house this afternoon. As I drove across 1097 bridge I didn't see one boat out although the water was much calmer than it has been in the last few days. Up in our section of the creek the water is up almost 12" which meant that I had to raise my boat up at least that to get it up out of the water. This is the highest I've seen Conroe in the 3 years we've had our place there. I actually had to step up to get in the boat.

The water in the creek is like chocolate milk and there is debris floating out in the main creek but no "widow makers", thank goodness. It's going to take a few days for it to settle and I hope San Jac River Authority starts releasing more water soon.

Well that doesn't sound good, making me want to reconsider my plans for Saturday.
I'm new to Houston and just planned on taking the kayak to Conroe to do some exploring, with hopes of catching a few bass. Water everywhere will be high I imagine. Any suggestions on a better place to try out?

I would stay away from Conroe this weekend bug tournament headed that way. Maybe head a little farther North to Raven (Huntsville State Park)

You should check out Fayette Co Lake. Not too far from Houston. thumb

It's tough for me to think of a worse place to take a kayak. Odds are you are going to have a bad time.

I was giving some serious consideration to taking the boat out to Conroe late this morning. Ran my errands and took care of my honey-do's and came home to get the boat ready. I figured the lake would be high but never imagined it'd be higher than it was not long ago. Well, came home and one of the step-sons was having car troubles. Spent all afternoon messing with that and missed my opportunity but sounds like it might have been better that I did. Back on nights this weekend so my next chance will be next week. Let us know how it looks over the weekend if you wouldn't mind. The tourney this weekend should be interesting - is there a specific site I can go to for updates on it?

Lake is fine, just a little higher than normal. Should be some big fish caught this weekend.

Just saw a Facebook post on Huntsville State Park where they got over 8" of rain. Raven is pretty high and the pictures were hard to tell if the ramp is still open but the dock/pier were partially submerged.

My partner and I boated 17 yesterday on Conroe. No real size but it was the best day for numbers, on Conroe, that I can remember. (For me at least)
