So I've pretty much narrowed it down to tuna alleys and fisch frames. The fisch seems to fit tighter so they would be best at sight fishing 580g amber/green? The tuna alleys will vent for hot days (580g blue/gray). Besides clarity what's the difference from glass to plastic? Why did you choose what you have? Also, where is a good place to purchase? If it was eBay, what was the sellers name?

Think about it this way....

Polycarbonate= lighter weight and shatterproof but will scratch easier
Glass= slightly heavier, will shatter (tempered glass) if impacted but virtually scratch proof.

Most prefer the glass for durability and clarity. They do cost more but will wear much longer.

There are two brands in apparel/accessories most counterfeited I believe: North Face, and Costa del Mar. I wouldn't go near eBay for either.

You did right by first determining the correct frame for fit and function. I own several pair, all 580G. Be aware that Costa holds some patents on 580G that are notable. The 580G (and P too I think) filter light based on wavelength, removing most yellow, thereby increasing clarity & contrast. This helps seeing what's in the the water after getting past the surface with polarization. The glass used in 580G is thinner than would otherwise be used (400G for instance), so this offsets some of the weight difference. So, some that say "Oh, the glass ones are so heavy" may have tried 400G and not 580G. My optometrist used a refractor to show me that the Costa 580G was in fact optically correct. He liked them.

Some of mine are several years old and still have no scratch at all. Now, I am careful with them due to the $$$ involved, but even care with polycarbonate will eventually result in scratches. Mine will always be 580G. I don't notice the weight.

I have one pair of 400G and one pair of 580P. I agree with Z521C cranker's assessment. Plastic is lighter, shatterproof, scratches much easier, and a little less clear for sight fishing. Glass is clearer for sight fishing, quite a bit heavier, will shatter if impacted, but don't scratch easy at all.

My 400G are my fishing pair and my 580P are my driving pair. The plastic lens are significantly more comfortable to wear for long periods of time, but the lack of scratch resistance really stinks. As comfortable as plastic are, I'd buy two pairs of 400G if I had to do it over again.

I don't see a ton of difference between the 400G and 580G. Yes, the 580 is better, but not by much. If you're on a budget, the 400G are still great glasses at a much better price point.

What was said about counterfeiting and Costa is spot on. Very seldom will you find new Costas online for less than MSRP. There are a few exceptions, specifically discontinued frame styles and colors. These are only sold through Costa vetted and approved online retailers.

Andrew, you have some great Costa dealers in your area who work hard to keep the best glasses in stock and support the local anglers.

Hometown Marine and Dependable Arms, Center
Needmore Tackle and Ann's Tackle, Jasper/Sam Rayburn
Tackle Addict, Onalaska
Kirbyville Barn, Kirbyville

The folks at these stores have the knowledge and training to insure you choose the right frame and lense combo to fit your needs.

If you will be attending or competing at the FLW Costa Series next week on Big Sam, stop by at registration or weighin. Needmore Tackle is the supporting dealer and will have glasses, apparel and gear for sale on site and will be offering free gift with purchase options.

The weight difference really isn't that big if you wear sunglasses on a regular basis. You would limit yourself if you didn't go with the 580G lenses. They are great glasses. I use the green lenses and they work great.

I have the Fantail green mirror 580g and don't notice any weight difference from my plastic lenses. Just like others have said, plastic scratches easily, and the glass pair I have looks like the day I bought them.

I have the Fantail in 580g blue mirror and fished in them all day last week. They are new so it was the first time. I think they are slightly too small for me and they are heavier than my wifes 580p by a pretty good margin. They hurt my head after wearing them all day. I think I'm going to give this pair to my wife and by either Zane's or Corbina's in 580p for all day wear. To me there is a big difference in weight and all day comfort between glass and plastic.

I think your issue is more with the frames than the lenses.

I have 2 pairs of the fisch, both in 580g. I have owned a few pair in the 580p as well but for me the choice is glass. Don't worry about what people say about the weight. The rubber on the frames sticks to your face so they wont slide down. My advice would be buy the best you can afford. I believe the 580g is around 250 in that frame and the 400g is around 180? I may be wrong on that. Another way ive heard the difference between 400g and 580g described is the difference between regular 400g(t)v and 580g(high def tv). the 580 just seems a little more crisp and clear.

All Costas are sized. Look on the website and see what you have. Each style only comes in one size. So if you think they are too small you might need to change styles.. Fisch is a extra large frame. I don't think it gets bigger than that. Those have to be big, because my Lagerhead is comfortable in my Corbinas.

2 pairs of Fisch, both 580g: one blue mirror & green mirror. The green are great for sight fishing and in clear water. Blue is great for sunny days.

I bought off eBay: electromix-USA was the seller. They are legit. All Costa genuine with case and paperwork, window sticker, etc... $189 for 580g blue mirror.

I'll have to check them out. Looking towards eBay but I do not like the fact of not seeing them in person
