Well the day started with shredding a tire on the boat trailer just outside Lufkin. Thankfully I had a spare and a jack, so after an hour delay changing the tire, we finally were back on the road. Arrived at Hanks Creek ramp about 7:30am and headed towards the Deer Stand. Having not fished Rayburn in a year, I knew it'd be a day of searching. Water was 58 degrees and dirty/stained north of the 147 bridge. No fish at the deer stand, tried spinnerbaits shallow, chatterbaits against buck brush/weeds, Carolina rigs in 8-15ft...nothing home.
Headed to Veach and fished a shoreline with one 2 lb. buck bass on a wacky rigged yamamoto senko. Nothing else would bite so fished the creek channel from the entrance of Veach all the way back with carlina rig and crankbaits. Stopped at a spot near the 147 bridge, but no decent grass, so headed back to the ramp. Overall a beautiful day on the water and regardless of the lack of bites, it's better than voting for Hillary anytime you can go fishing.

yesterday was toughest for bites of last 1-2+ weeks. you were doing the right things though. through Tuesday the pitching bite was ridiculous, you could catch 30-50 fish a day, but most bucks 13-16". The bigger females were on little deeper hard wood or buried deep, think nasty buck brush with haygrass all around it. you could also catch them with about any bait anywhere, but the pitching was best. Wednesday the front started blowing through and that caused them to pull back and hold even tighter to cover. Best bite Thursday was pockets with hydrilla trap or c-rig. Friday they were little more stingy and seemed to just like the hydrilla with c-rig, trap not as good. Thicker the better, but even the sparse hydrilla had fish on it. You could still catch them pitching last few days, just maybe more of a grind and targeting nastier stuff. there has been some sight fishing the last week too, but winds and mud messed that up mostly.

this past week I caught fish on c-rig, t-rig, a-rig, jerkbait, buzz bait, frog, trap, whacky, and jig. was never able to get bite on chatter bait or crank.

it should be improving again all week, probably solid sight fishing by end of week.

Only way I could get bit yesterday was flipping isolated bushes in 5-6'. Only one small area also and every isolated bush had a fish. Bite was very tough until after lunch or I just found the area they were in. And it was an area of probably an acre small. Even caught about a 2 pound spotted bass off one bush.
