Wow 59 cents with a Kroger discount!

With the low gas prices, will you be spending more days on the lake this year?

Nope, still same number of trips but it does mean that I'll be driving to lakes further away like Fork.

Actually that's 60 cents....cheapest I've seen. But I also don't shop Kroger, it's in a bad location locally. Gas price has NO impact on my fishing...I go regardless of price.

Cheap gas often equates to more frequent trips to the mechanic.

Since I work in the oilfield these cheaper prices mean fewer trips for me. Although these low fuel prices are nice for many, the prices really need to go back up. Low oil prices affect much more than just the oil industry and its employees. Pay close attention to the stock market as oil fluctuates. Defiantly not good for the economy.

Not good for the economy for people in that field but ask truckers and others how much the lower oil prices are improving their economy. If oil remained low the market would correct itself.

As with anything there are winners and losers. There's a lot of people that are benefactors of low prices and that spending makes its way back into the economy in a big way. I can tell you it most definitely helps fishing and tournament fishing specifically. Anglers travel more and use the gas savings to buy more tackle etc.

I feel for those here in Texas impacted but this will weed out those whose business can't sustain and push those left to innovate and improve. Prices will be back up at some point and those who've weathered the storm will be better for it. My two cents.

Saw $1.48 at Brookshire's in Emory yesterday. Spending $50 at the pump rather than $100 works out well.
More disposable income equates to more trips to the lake (at the drop of a hat) and spending a tad more cash while at the lake on meals etc. rather than always taking my own food with me. I have also been consistently paying the $3.00 to launch at a private ramp instead of going to the free ramps. I feel better about leaving my truck at a private location.

The pendulum has temporarily swung back in the direction of consumers. I filled my truck a couple of days ago for $31. A few years ago that same amount of gas would have cost me over $80. For most people, saving $50 every time they fill their vehicle means a lot more disposable income. Personally it's saving me between $500 and $600 every month. That's $6,000 to $7,000 on an annual basis on take home pay...which means it's like getting a $10,000 raise in gross pay at work.

Consumers who are keeping a few hundred more dollars in their wallets instead of pumping them into their gas tanks eat out more at restaurants. They buy more clothes, rods and reels, and appliances. More cars and trucks, too.

On the other hand, some of the 25-35 year olds who have been buying new $60,000 trucks, $70,000 boats, four wheelers, G Loomis rods, and big new houses because they have been making a killing working for oil companies probably don't like it.

Guess what? I didn't like overpaying through the nose for a commodity that never should have sold for close to $4.00 per gallon, either.
