Along with many of you, I purchase tungsten sinkers from a reputable tackle dealer. However, like many of you I have experienced tungsten weights that will cut your line due to the rough line opening. This is especially critical when pegging the sinker. Pegging holds the line tight against the edge of the weight line opening, contributing to the potential for being cut off.

Is there a tungsten provider who "guarantees" the line pass thru is completely polished clear thru the line opening? I don't know of any.

The sensitivity of tungsten makes the cost well worth the purchase but getting cut off by the same sinker and losing cash winning fish destroys that offset. We as customers need to start a movement to have all tungsten weight dealers demand their weights be completely polished entirely thru the line opening not just on the tip or bottom edge but clear thru each sinker. I can assure you I would purchase sinkers that are "guaranteed" to be polished entirely and pay the extra cost associated with this guarantee.

Teflon inserts are NOT the answer.

I encourage those of us who use tungsten to get behind having your dealer get their products polished completely thru the line opening. Not just a superficial polish at the edge but all the way thru the line pass thru.

Some are going to think I'm being extreme but once you have a couple fish swim off because your high dollar line was cut by your high dollar sinker, you'll understand my desire for a better product to limit this frustration.

Buy Picasso tungsten. Problem solved. Don't think anyone is going to guarantee your line won't break using their weights, though.

Not even close to asking for a non-line break guarantee. That would be rather disingenuous!

My point here is to try and see if we as customers can get tungsten manufacturing and dealers to set a standard for all tungsten weights sold. Purchasing Picasso weights may be one way to promote this standard because all manufacturers would have to follow suit to stay competitive.

Their are only a few places where all of the tungsten you are buying is coming from. None and I repeat none of it is being made in the United States. All of it comes from China and is very expensive to have freighted in here by the time you pay all the taxes, duty fees and everything else. All of us get it from 1 of these few places.

Picasso and/or Reins, if your line breaks using those brands then its probably your line. There are some shoddy tungsten weights being sold out there for sure... but you can tell real quick upon close inspection which ones those are. I just learned through trial and error and avoid those brands like the plague.

Or, you can use heat shrink tubing in any tungsten weight manufacturer and solve the issue yourself. This method does take a little elbow grease and time, but you won't have to worry about your line breaking because of rough edges on a weight.

Another good point! Since 90% of the weights are manufactured in one place and distributed from there, dealers can all get the entire process to include polishing the line pass thru. It may add another .003 cents per weight in manufacturing which turns into another .05 cents per weight in retail. It's worth it.

So if u are really that concerned about line breakage put a peg it bobber stop under it, give it and the knot a little cushion,
as far as me I get mine from apt, and river a tackle, 15 lb floro, retie often, no issues yet...

What brand tungsten do you use?

I don't peg my weights but I use Strike King & Picasso and have never had my line cut by one of their tungsten weights.

My biggest problem with tungsten is the holes are usually too small to use rubber pegs.

Then use a bobber stop.

I buy mine from APT... They carry them in bulk and are priced right.

same here. I actually buy them and then use a 1/32"-1/16"drill bit to open and polish my "cheap" academy tungsten. It costs me very little. And then I paint them green pumpkin (OD green).

After some further discussion on and off this forum, I have to say I may be contributing significantly to my line breakage issue. I have been using the "T" shaped peg-its for years. The T shaped peg-its hold the line tight and to "one" side or position of the sinker. Pegging the sinker against the edge or side of the weight. If that spot isn't polished smooth I may be cutting my own line on the hookset.

I have been turned on to a new line/sinker pegging device from River A Tackle that goes on the line much like a bobber stopper but actually goes down into the weight at the top and separates the line contact with the weight completely. Plus when the line comes out the bottom of the weight it is centered in the weight away from the edge of the weight.
