Plan on ordering some weights and hooks for punching with. I planed on getting the owner jungle hooks, unless there is a better option out there. Also was planning on tungsten figured 3/4,1oz. And 1 1/2oz would be a good selection to have in the boat. If anyone knows of a good place to buy tungsten at a decent price that would be great. I never spend the money on it but figure with 65lb braid I'm not going to loose many so I could spend the money. Thanks in advance for any feedback or suggestions.

Those Owner Jungle flipping hooks are amazing. My favorite flipping hook by far.

After bending out some trokar flipping hooks I moved to owner and man they are sweet! The hack attack hooks are good to but I prefer the owner ones for sure really like the bait keeper it holds the baits in place but does not tear them up to much

Peg. Trimmed as close got the weight as possible, so it makes a streamlined bait.

80# braid, bobber stopper,(dependeding on the cover your punching will decided the weight size)3/4 to 2oz tungsten, 5/0 Trokar hook with a snail knot tied on it, use a slim bait w/o to many trnicals so it does not grip (I use a Big Bite YoDaddy). You can order all from tackle warehouse and if you tie it up correcly you are not going to loose any.

Oh. I use a Trokar flippin hook. On 20lb Seaguar. I tie a snell knot right opposite of the bait keeper barbs from the eye. Or on the shank, if you will. I then use a 1oz H2O express tungsten weight that I drill out with a 1/16th drill bit so there is room for 20lb fluorocarbon and a peggit peg. I get the peg tight and then closely trim both sides of the peg so the hook eye fits closely to the weight. I use Biffle Bugs almost always when flipping. The big ones. Not the 4 1/4" if I can keep from it. If no "bugs", I'll throw some SK rage craws or rage rodents. I almost always use green pumpkin.

My favorite flipping hook is a VMC Ike approved heavy duty flippin hook. Depending on how thick the grass is that I'm punching I usually use a 3/4-1 1/4 ounce tungsten. The bait I use 90% of the time is a Berkley Havoc pit boss for flipping grass

3/0 jungle hook, 1-1.5 oz tungsten, punch bobber stop about 2" above the weight. I like the Xcite raptor tail jr or zoom speed craw on 50lbs braid.

Just throwing this out here for you Brad. This is what I won all my grass tournaments on at Lake Amistad. I have tried every punch weight and jig available and none have even come close to producing like the Heavy Drop Shot. They cannot break throw the mat like this will either. Goes in and comes out on a vertical drop clean as a whistle.

It works everywhere, shallow mat but best on the deepest grass you can find. You got to keep going until you find that sweet spot, pitch out the marker and circle it looking for others because they will be grouped up under the hollow.
If the wind is blowing you can get in there on the upwind side; put the trolling motor up and big motor up and walk the boat across the mat by rocking the boat from side to side. In the heat of the day they are burred up in the grass.

Rig a heavy drop shot rig:
5.0 heavy super line hook. Tied on 50# braid. Use a Palomar knot. Leave the tag end at 5 inches long. Tie a 1 oz. weight to the tag end. I just tie a knot in the end of the tag, then use a overhand slip knot to attach the weight. It doesn't take much to keep it on. When I am fishing grass and hardwoods and it gets hung on the wood I can pull it off and come out with the hook and fish. You understand that the hook is about 4 to 5 inches above the weight, so the tails of the bait will hang down and cover the weight. Use a Gene Lawrue Hoo Daddy Jr. in Watermelon Neon. It will drop in the grass and come out of the grass with no hang-ups.

Fish vertical to 20% in front of the boat. Directly over the bait is best on the deepest grass. Drop it in slowly and soft so it is traveling slowly when it touches the bottom. The Bass hate anything sneaking in on them. Hold it there with a tight line for about 5 seconds without any movement. They don't want it bouncing up and down. This gives them time to swim through the hollow under the grass and nail the bait.

A Vertical presentation is best, moving along the outer edge of the grass line, making pitches out in front of the boat so by the time it gets to the bottom you are directly over the bait for the hook set.

I am sold on these because they hold the bait great, they are very strong and the small bait keeper does not get hooked on debris. The 2/0 is perfect for my favorite beaver style baits

what do you guys mean by trimming the peg?? I use punch rigs all the time that are pegged but have never heard of trimming the peg

Decoy Flippin Hook

I was in love with the Owner Jungle hook, until I found this baby. I had a small problem with the keeper on the Owner's bending too far after multiple fish, and I wasn't able to get them back in it's normal place. That problem was solved with this hook, and they're cheaper too! It's turned out to be my favorite hook. It's very sharp, and the point will stay sharp and stay straight after many fish. It's a great hook!
