I have ran the tires that came when I bought my bought my boat new nearly 3 years ago. I haven't had any issues but also know it is time to replace them before this season of many miles starts. The tire place here has Carlisles (which is what I have) but also have Hartland tires and stated they were very good as well for a cheaper price.....Has anyone ran Hartland tires on their boat trailer? Any info is appreciated.

Discount also told me Hartland was a great choice with many great reviews. I'm in the same situation as you, I'd like to hear real reviews if there are any.

I'd suggest you also consider the Maxxis trailer tires. They are available in high-capacity using up to 65lbs of air pressure.

I hauled my boat from Arizona the Texas with no issues. I bought mine at Discount Tire. Kuhmo also has a good trailer tire, but they are limited to 14 inch rim sizes.

Yep. I have had 3-4 sets spread out over 3-4 boats and they have yet to give me the first issue despite lots of miles. Great tires from a great business.

I had someone tell me I should go with a regular car tire than trailer tires on my boat. Or is this a bad idea. I don't know just asking as I am needing new tires as well

Get an SUV tire. You can get the same size with a heavier weight load. They last forever. I have done this on all my trailers. Don't buy trailer tires the manufacture recommends 55 mph max speed. Well that will get you killed on Texas roads. Good luck

The SUVs tires are cheaper as well. 65,000 mile tire on a trail last forever. No crazy blowouts that rip your fenders off like 6 ply trailer tires.

SUV and car tires are designed for vehicles with a much different suspension system than trailers. The tire is part of that system. Most boat trailers do not have shock absorbers. For this reason, trailer tire sidewalls are designed for a different service environment. I know some people put car/SUV tires on trailers, but an individual's choice of doing so doesn't make it correct. No tire manufacturer will approve of their SUV/car/pick-up tire being used on a trailer - if you asked.

There are technical reasons for it built into the tire design; it's not just a label. Some will choose to follow the manufacturer recommendations, and others won't. As for trailer tires, I would not bother with bias-ply (non-radial) to save money. Those are often more prone to disintegration, and they certainly do not ride as smoothly as radials. Get radials, and get them balanced!

Most bass boat rigs with a tandem axle configuration are not pushing the limits of the tires because there are 4 of them supporting the weight. (Average weight per tire isn't bad.) Some boats with a single axle are actually the ones pushing the envelope, with a good bit more weight per tire. For single axle applications, I highly recommend Kuhmo tires for their superior specs.

I have Carlisles on my trailer. I have had them for several years now and I pull the boat all over Texas at freeway speeds. No problems. The tires I replaced were car tires (not trailer tires) that came with the boat (used). One of the car tires blew out at 75 mph on the way to Lake Fork one morning. I am not sure about the other brands, but I can recommend Carlisle radial tires.
