When you think of bass fishing history in Texas, which 3 events stood out the most to you.
Mine are as follows:
1)Mark Stevenson 17lbs.10oz. Lake Fork State Record
2)Keith Combs record 3 day catch of 110lbs at the TBBC
3)The massive bass fish kill in the early 2000s

Bob Kemp bringing Florida Bass to Texas with his own money.

Skeeter bringing the first bass boat to market.

Larry Nixon becoming the first pro bass angler to earn over $1million. Even though Nixon's from Arkansas, he was part of the Hemphill gang.

I would say three things that jump out at me would be.
Even though we didn't know it at the time the opening of Lake Fork which turned into a lake known around the world.
The BASS tournament down at Falcon definitely made world wide news.
It didn't make world wide news but my fondest memory is being with one of my grandsons when he caught his first bass in the pond next door.

These two for sure.

Would probably have to throw in Mark Stephenson with the first Share-a-lunker

In my memory,

2008, Paul Elias down on Falcon setting the world on fire with that 4 day 132lb catch
Keith Combs dropping 110lbs in 3 days on fork (showing how damn good the lake still really can be)
Buying my first boat (this one only really effects me but it was a huge memory in my fishing history)

#1 Is easy for me. Paul Elias in the 2008 Lonestar Shootout on Falcon.
#2 Would have to be Combs on Fork at the TTBC.
#3 Would be Stevenson and the 17lber. . .

1. Moving to Texas
2. Fishing in Texas.
3. Continuing to reside in Texas.

1. That I would spend 25 thousand dollars for a boat..
2. I would spend over two hundred dollars for a single reel.
3. That I can't wait to get to the lake every weekend and use them..

I would say these...

1. Impoundment of Toledo Bend and Sam Rayburn in late 60's
2. State record broken from 1938 by 14lb fish from Monticello, Florida strain
3. Lake Fork creation and 17+ LB state records from it

2 Share A Lunker
3 When the state record was set in 1992 at 18.18

#2. was family, my wifes uncle Jimmy Kimbel.

#3. I got to wittness, we had a weekend house on Lake Winnsboro. We drove in every weekend on 515, I've been on the old road beds that are under water, and 154. It was amazing to watch the progression of the water to points North..

And meeting the guy that started it all in the SAL program Mark Stephenson, it was just days after he caught Ethel at the first Val's location on 515 in hogansville, also knowing Val and Gaylan was an honor.

Nick Creme moving his operation to Tyler and the advent of the Texas Rig. I didn't know that Lake Tyler may have been where the Texas Rig was born. Any old timers on here know who may have been the one to discover the Texas Rig? I know Bill Coleman was one, if not the first, field testers for Creme. He told me he had done tackle shows around Texas where he showed people how to rig a Texas Rig.

In the late 1950s, Creme noticed his company was shipping numerous baits to the Tyler, Texas, area and that requests for replacement worms without three-hook harnesses were skyrocketing.
He soon discovered that Texas anglers were using his replacement worms on Lake Tyler, which opened a few years earlier. Lake Tyler anglers threaded a single hook through the Scoundrel's head, rotated the hook, then buried the barb into the body to guard against snagging in the wood.
"We are convinced that Lake Tyler is where the first Texas rig was fished, although we still don't know who was responsible for creating it," says Kent.
Creme also discovered that anglers throughout Texas were falling in love with the plastic worm and the "Texas rig" they were using on other brush-filled lakes.
That prompted him to move his business to Tyler in 1960 and capitalize on the growing plastic worm market.
Interestingly, the move occurred around the same time Skeeter was building the first fiberglass bass boat 24 miles up the road and one of the first sonar units was being manufactured about 300 miles away in Tulsa, Okla.

It had to be 1965 my dad was Buddies with a guy named Tracy Hoyel, he and Nick were fathernlaw-son&law. My old man would go fishing with them boys in East Tx lakes.. Winnsboro, Pines, Caddo, and so on, back in the day. Main reason I grew up on Winnsboro. Those guys knew how to jig fish. Wish I could have a do over for back then... Kewl stuff for sure, great people to have known as well. Just s little bit of history at the time I was clueless to know... LOL..
