I had a 1996. It was a good boat except for the trailer that they replaced under warranty and a fiberglass issue that they had to fix within 3 months of me buying it brand new. After they fixed it, it remained a great boat until I sold it in 2000. Things I would watch out for on a boat of that age would be the transom and the compression on the motor. Definitely have a reputable shop check it out.

I've had 4 boats, two used in the beginning, and the last two were new ones. Here's my thinking on buying a used boat,... think of it just like you would if you were buying a used car, and what would you expect out of a used car of the same year.

If you can find a slightly newer one with one of the Ox66 motors, I would recommend that option. I have a 2000 ZX202 with a Ox66, and those are some tough motors. It ran fine when I got it, but being anal retentive, I went through all the maintenance including having the injectors cleaned and calibrated. It runs like a top now. I haven't been able to get out the last month until yesterday. It fired right up and ran solid like it always does. A buddy was driving it yesterday, and I was looking at it not believing it was 15 years old.

I still have a zx175 bought new in 1993. Love the boat so still have it plus it's paid for. It's been on most every lake in north Texas and in the bay's on the coast. Powered and repowered with 150 faststrike it will run 60-65 wot. On gps. Although the old 91 faststrike was faster before it blew. No wash over the back like earlier models when coming off plane. No hull issues. 18' 8 but rides bigger and fishes great. Just used meguires color restore and wax to make it look almost new. Since it's so old I am now getting man that's a good looking Classic at the gas pump. And its better than any stinking ranger submarine I have ever been in. that's for you Steve.

I had one for 10 years and loved it. 1995 have wood transom, in 1996 they were composite. I never had any problems with my 95. If I was looking for that price boat I would check out transom, if it's ok I would not be Afraid of it, or try to find a 96 or newer skeeter. I have a cousin that has a 2001 SX 180 that he bought new and that he has kept in the garage since new. Called me yesterday and said he wanted to sell due to health issues. If interested call 405-623-5871.

Transoms on 1995 back is a huge problem.
The world will not be destroyed by those who do evil, but by those who watch them without doing anything. Remember what He has done and remember that He is not done yet!-- GOD IS GOOD
