Every time I flip the switch on my bilge pump it automatically blows the fuse. Did a little research online, but couldn't nail down exactly the information I need. Anyone have any experience with this? Its running off of a 5 amp fuse if that is pertinent information at all.

It could be motor on pump is locked up so, it overloads then blows the fuse. If you can unhook the pump ,then turn switch on see if it holds if it does then replace pump.

Have you cleaned it out? If yes, then just buy a new one. They are cheap enough. I wouldn't risk it, just in case you really need it.

Thanks for the answers I feel like just dropping 40-50 on a pump seems to be the best solution.

When you pull the pump. Stick it across the battery and see if it works. I'd put a 5 amp inline with it as well. If it happens to work, I'd ohm out your wire feeding the pump. If it pops the fuse, you already have another in hand to replace it.

Should be able to just replace the pump cartridge.

I just pulled the pump cartridge out, put in a new fuse and ran it. Didn't blow the fuse. Put it back in an blew the fuse. Found out that the impeller, for whatever reason was now rubbing the housing. No rocks or anything in the housing. I got a new rubber seal, (pain to find)and it was fine. Although I later replaced the pumps because I wanted a higher GPH.
