Okay here is my situation. i really confident in a T-rig. fishing a strike king rodent, rage craw, Zoom Brush hog. catch fish all day long on them!! from bed fishing to flipping docks i will even peg the weight when fishing heavy Grass still i catch fish like nobodys business. i love Them... but i m trying to build my confindence up with a Jig. and its a no GO!!! i Bought all Hackattack jigs and i use rage craw Trailers, KVD Prefect plastic trailers. I fish these 3/8 and 1/2 jigs (depending on cover) in the same Place i fish my old trusty T-rig and no luck. I fish it the same way I fish a T-rig. seems like fish run from it. any advice would be good thanks

You are very unlikely to get as many bites on a jig as on plastics. My personal philosophy is: why charge a windmill, do/use what works.
After saying that, if you only want to fish for a few good bites instead of numbers, and maybe no bites, fish the jig. Watch a "lot" of youtube videos on jig fishing, there are some good ones that will help you learn. Fish it where you know bass are, fish it slow, throw to targets, and try different retrieves, staying in contact with the bottom. Drag it slowly, pause, twitch it, let it soak, hop it, you'll eventually learn what they want at any given time.

To me the jig is a target only type bait. You can fish them anywhere but I've had best success fishing them in heavy cover. Stumps, standing timber, boat houses, docks, around rocks or matted grass - even pads, these have proven better for me. Also, I find that slow crawling it or very small hops seem to work best. As with T-rigs use the lightest jig you can and still maintain feel. Use natural colors but black, green or pumpkin will normally get you bit.
And remember it's a big fish bait. You won't get as many bites but you also stand a better chance at a bigger fish.

when you say slow crawling it do you drag it? or do you use your reel. and just reel it very slowly

you will get fewer bites....but the bites will be better quality. Make sure you are trimming the skirt and making it look as appealing to you as possible. If you do not have confidence in the way it looks then you will not fish it with confidence.

I have lots of jigs, pork, and plastics to go with them and put a lot of time flipping, pitching, and casting them. I think I have caught 2 fish in my lifetime on a jig. It can be a tough bite. I think my biggest issue is not recognizing the bite. The fish I caught were just an almost undetectable tick in the rod. I set the hook and there just happened to be a fish at the other end. I think this style of fishing is where a person really needs to put up the big bucks for a sensitive rod and use braid or fluorocarbon line to get all the feel you can get................

Aside from football and swim jigs, I pretty much only flip/pitch them to cover. Never really just cast around like with t-rig. Drag, hop, soak it even bang it around the cover sometimes. It is a different bite and most always a light one in my experience, good rod and fluro/braid really help but for me the biggest thing is concentrating and line watching. A sharp quick hookset has also seemed to work better than the old homerun swing.

I missed a big one the other day at Joe Pool on a flipping jig. It spit it out at the boat and the water was real clear so I got a good look at her. She had to be 7-8lbs and for me, especially at Joe Pool that really sucks. But it's the only bite I had that day. If I would have caught it then it would have been an awesome trip, and that's the way I look at jig fishing, fish all day for 2 or 3 bites and you will usually catch good ones.

I learned to fish a jig by;
1)deciding I WAS going to learn to fish a jig, 2)fishing on farm ponds where fish were plentiful, had not seen every type of lure multiple times and were willing to bite, 3) fishing the jig at times when fish were biting well and hitting just about any lure you threw, and 4) repeating this process as often as possible.
This way I learned the feel of the jig in the water and and the feel of the various ways fish will bite a jig. I watched it move in shallow water to see what it was doing in response to the way I move the rod or way I reeled on retrieve.
I was fortunate and combined all the above one Saturday on a 3 acre. The result is jigs have been my favorite lure ever since!
3/16 black/blue jig with matching craw trailer ( I have used all kinds) is hard to beat!
Good luck. You can learn and you won't be sorry!

Move the bait with the rod and use the reel to take-up slack, Pay attention to everything you feel. When you hit something pause, shake, oor just dead stick it. Try differiant speeds, rod angles, etc,

I PRETTY MUCH USE BLACK/BLUE 38 OZ. WITH A MATCH TRAILER. TRY TO WATCH YOUR LINE TO ME THE MOST IMPORTANT LESSON I CAN GIVE YOU. ALSO WHEN I FISH DOCKS I LOOK FOR 5 FT OR DEEPER, I BYPASS REAL SHALLOW DOCKS 2FT OR LESS WHEN USING A JIG.

The next time you are really catching them good on a T-rig force yourself to tie on a jig and craw and fish it. Start off with a 3/8 oz green pumpkin jig and fish it in the same places where you are catching the worm fish. Most of the fish you catch on a jig will be 4# and up.
