Where am I?

I'll take a stab at it. Looks like the west arm of Monticello. Better known as Blundell.

Sorry... had to work this afternoon.. Monticello was correct. Water temps were around 67 at ramp Friday morning, 69 nearer the hot water discharge, and 67 in the far northern end in the pads. You can hear plant running but nothing from any of the stacks showing. Water temps warmed to 70 in the afternoon. Fish were thumping it when I could get bit. Only caught 5 fish for the day but all slot fish and missed just as many fishing hollow bellies in the pads on weighted flashy spinner. Saw some good ones jumping and splashing much deeper in the pads than I cared to fish. Haven't been on the lake in a long time and did a lot of exploring far up the creek. Threw a flutter spoon around the bait earlier in the day in 17 feet of water and caught my biggest of the day.. missed a couple more on it. Just starting to get some confidence in those baits.

Lake looks great, surprised at how many folks were fishing on a Friday morning.

Nice! Pretty good clip up into Blundell in a yak. Do you put in @ the bridge?

I have put in at the bridge before (two years ago) but its not worth the effort. Parking is too far from the actual water and if its been raining you risk getting stuck, the corners on the sides of bridge are thick with brush, the traffic is a nightmare early in the morning at shift change, all bridge embankments are too steep and without a rope you'll you'll go sliding down with it. You have to slide everything over the guard rail too. A couple of more trips up and down embankment carrying a couple of thousand in rods/reels, fishfinder and tackle and its an accident waiting to happen. And then there's the dark and the fog to deal with. I use the boat ramp.

When I know the fish are biting I'll try to be the first back there. Once left the ramp around 4 a.m. to get an early start, foggiest morning I've ever seen, the campground and ramp were covered in it. Didn't have gps at the time and got turned around. Took me forever just to find opening under the big bridge. Passed under it, and took middle of lake on further up towards railroad bridge. Just enough breeze on my face and chop on water to feel confident I was headed in the right direction, checking my watch to know about where I was. Wind subsides, more fog, and I get lost... severely lost. To the point of getting vertigo.

Couldn't even see the bow of my kayak. Must have paddled in big circle for half an hour trying to find land in any direction. Finally thought I heard the mining bucket working and paddled for another half hour towards the sound... nope, I was back at the big bridge and what I had heard was car traffic. Couldn't see the car lights until I was almost right up to bridge. Start back in correct direction as by now its starting to get light.. but still solid fog bank.. when I hear first boat coming I head for the bank. I can't remember how long it was before I finally made it to destination but every boat on the lake was there when I arrived.

Took this pic that morning when I could see for 20 yards in every direction. The first hope I'd had in an hour. Back to being lost a minute of two later.

Dang I love that lake.

I've been "lost" on the water a couple of times, way back in the day. Since then, I've never launched without some type of compass - whether magnetic or on my smart phone. Could save your life someday.
