I purchased a Megabass Orochi XX dropshot spinning rod setup and wanted to give everyone a quick review since there seems to be quite a bit of discussion about dropshotting lately. I stopped by Anglers Pro Tackle and bought the rod about a month ago and paired it with a Shimano Stradic CI4+ 2500 reel. Rick recommended I spool it with Sunline Finesse FC and I selected 8 lb test. I was able to use it once before I took it to Fork for a long weekend of fishing.

I wanted to caveat this review with the fact that I have used several different dropshot rods before purchasing this particular model.

I used this setup to fish Texas rigged finesse worms with a 3/16 oz weight. The rod has a very soft tip that allows a user to cast the rig quite a ways. It also has a very good backbone. The weight of the combo was very light and I believe this added to the rods great sensitivity. The only negative that I could identify with the rod is that it has no hook keeper. I made my own out of a small piece of Velcro and the problem was solved.

I will say that Im not much of a fan of fluorocarbon on a spinning reel, but I am very impressed with the Sunline Finesse FC. Very strong line for having finesse in the name and it is very manageable.

Over a 2 day period, I caught a little over a dozen fish on this setup, the biggest being about 4 lbs. I was very impressed with the way it handled the 4 pounder even though the tip is soft. The strong backbone in the rod enabled positive hookups throughout the weekend. I lost two fish, one pretty good one that got me wrapped in a tree (took me quite some time to break the 8 lb Finesse FC) and another due to a poor hookset.

I did a lot of research before picking up this combo, and I will have to agree with others that have used this rod. For the money, it is one of the best dropshot rods on the market today that compares to some of the high-end dropshot rods on the market.

I have the Megabass Orochi Shakey Head Rod paired with a Stradic Ci4 4000. Personally, I like the larger real on that rod. It is an awesome rod. I like the handle a lot. Overall, these are great rods.

Thanks or the review Lynn. Glad you like the rod. That Sunline FC is the real deal!

Does Megabass make a drop shot or shaky head rod in a baitcaster? I looked at the Orochi XX F3 1/2-70XXS on the Megabass site and the first picture of the rod appears to be a bait caster reel seat and handle but all the other pictures are of a spinning rod.

They are the spinning rods I use. I have 3 of them and the eyelet fall out like crazy. 2-3 eyelets on each of them. I don't have this problem with any other rods. That being said I'd still buy another one.

The Fast Moving Special or the Flat Side Special are both good to use as DS rods.

Thanks Mark. I was having trouble figuring exactly which one would work best.

The FMS will be a bit lighter. The FSS is a very versatile rod and can be used for a lot of other stuff as well.
