I have a few Z Man chatterbaits that I bought last year that have actual black blades. Now all I can find on Tackle Warehouse, Academy, Bass Pro, etc., are the darker nickel blades. I don't like these as much. Has anyone else noticed this? I know there are other brands that do have black blades (Phenix, etc.), but I actually really like the action of the z man and how they pull through grass.

ZMan seems to change a few things every year so finding that painted black blade maybe a problem. I will look and see what I have and get back with you. I may have a couple if you are interested.
Thanks

Most the guys I know just hit it with a big black marker. Seems to work just fine.

James--I tried one of the CS Quick-Coat Paint Marker a couple of times with poor results. I guess I need to just try a regular old marker. Sharpie or something.
Marc--PM me if you find anything. I might be interested depending on size, colors, quantities, etc.

Could always use powder paint to coat them whatever color you like. Or there are several tackle building sites that sell blk blades.

I've had pretty good luck in getting paint to adhere to metals by spraying zinc chromate primer on first. Works real well on lead. I've done some spinnerbait blades but haven't used them enough to give them a good test.

Alex that is some great info wish I would have known this sooner since I just place a order earlier in the week from them, but oh well might just need to order a few more things.
Have you personally used the blade dip? Does it hold up well? Reason I was asking is I had plans of airbrushing some of my blades to match the skirt colors and dipping would make it alot easier. Would also be interesting to color the snaps and ring on a bladed jig to match the bait.
Thanks again for posting the link.

Thanks again for posting the link. No problem! Here to help when I can. I haven't used the dip, but I know another manufacturer that has. I will ask the next time I see them. I prefer electroplating. My thoughts are that the metal-to-metal bonding process is going to be stronger than a dip. It limits us as far as colors go, but as a manufacturer, I'm going for the best quality I can get. Some of the guys that have helped me make product component decisions have told stories about coating flaking off the blades of some competitors and then having what they considered to be a useless blade. I'm not sure if the competitor was airbrushing or using blade dips or a diluted electroplating process, but it was very irritating to the fishermen.

I found the orange blade dip to come off way too easy. Anyone else have success with it? Maybe I'm not doing something right.
