I have just started bass fishing again since the '90s and much has changed. The electronics are simply amazing and there are more lures and techniques than one can shake a stick at. I fished Fayette and Rayburn almost exclusively, back then, so I don't have much experience with other lakes. At that time, I would rarely throw a crank bait. For you hard core, seasoned bass fishermen, do you think certain lures work better on certain lakes? Have we been incorrectly trained to fish certain lures during certain times of the year?
I have been fishing a small east Texas lake all summer and have been catching good numbers of quality fish with wake baits, crank baits, and chatter baits in 2-5 feet of water. I have done this throughout the day, with water temps as high as 94 degrees. I see guys soaking worms and jigs and it is generally slow for them. I am wondering if it is just the lake characteristics that allow this or is it typical bass behavior. Do bass really slow down that much in most lakes during the summer? If so, are there exceptions to this pattern?
FYI, the lake in question is less than 1,000 acres and the deepest parts are around 25 feet, with very little submerged vegetation.

All lakes have that certain technique at a certain time of year that prevail. A lake I fish ALOT has one such bite. From January to March u better have a chatterbait tied on and from March to May a frog. If not your fishing for smaller quality fish and less bites. Personally as for your case, I think in summertime you can catch more by attacking a fishes instincts, by that I mean a reaction strike. Just my opinion though from my history.
I can backlash toilet paper.
