Not sure why I got to thinking about this but I didn't have cable TV until I rented my first house in the early 2000's so I never got to see tournaments on TV during the old days.

I do remember watching a tourney as a kid back in the pistol grip days and the format was kind of odd, basically there where designated holes and the anglers would just rotate through those select few spots. Was this Bassmasters? If so would appreciate a quick history lesson on how the formats have changed over the years.

Probably a much better showing of angling ability instead of having a solid week or more to dissect every aspect of the lake with side scan and every lure imaginable. They should have some retro tournaments in the old school formats like mystery destinations, sharing the boat with another pro, etc.

I still have a closet full of recorded video tapes of all of those old Bassmaster shows. One of the many Megabucks that Larry Nixon won I have watched a million times. He was the master of that type of tournament in the day. One of these days I am going to have to have DVD's made of all of those tapes.

I was at the White Rock Lake event and what I remember was the OMC crew there with a brand new engine called a Ficht running in a tub of water. So proud of their product......little did they know.

Tournament was cut to 3 days on Richland-Chambers due to high winds on 3rd day. Fourth day was freezing at take off.

I finished in 10th Place on the Amateur Division. Fished with Randy Blauket, Billy Billeaud and Fred Bland.

Wow, that must have been a great experience.... Randy Blauket, hadn't heard or seen that name in awhile.. He could fish.

Did you see Randy Qualls of Legend boats in there, Dreabon Joiner, Richard McCarty, good stuff. I recall when they fished it at white rock..

My brother went out one of the days on Richland Chambers and followed KVD around. Was telling me how unbelievable it was to watch him cast a spinnerbait in that wind and pinpoint targets on the edge of heavy timber from 40 feet away while trolling on high speed. My brother was having trouble just keeping his boat into position to watch him and here he is like a machine gun firing cast after cast right where he wanted with no problem.
Didn't the White Rock final day come down to Jeff Magee catching a fish in overtime to beat Denny Brauer?

I was there also, but all I remember is Jimmy Houston's laugh when he hung into what he thought was a good one, but turned out to be a pair of granny panties! fish
