we fished from 1800-0145 and except for the schooling sandies, only landed 2 big unders. we had 14 blow-ups on frogs and yellow magics and i had good hook sets on four that either spit the baits or wrapped me on brush. one even had the audacity to spit the hook in the dark while i had maximum pressure on him causing the popper(smallish thankfully) to hit me right in the middle of the forehead. no hookset there but a small cut and lump. could have been much worse. i will look away/down from now on when it is too dark to see anyway. i had never felt eye protection was necessary while fishing, but i would have appreciated some last night. pictures to follow.

You did get lucky. Sounds like you found some active fish though.

Ouch! But yes, middle of forehead much better than in the eye.
