A buddy and I are going fishing tomorrow weather permitted and was thinking Whitney or wheeler branch in glen Rose does anybody have any info on the fishing and boat ramps at these lakes?� Thanks!

Whitney will be high, but I'd go there for big fish.... be careful in the river

Wheeler Branch has two boat ramps side by side and it is a troll-only lake. It is about a foot over full pool with some water still running in from watershed drainage.

Fishing had been pretty strong even as they were recently pumping water in from the Paluxy River and fish were stacking up near the inlet. Other parts of the lake were negatively affected as what is usually a clear lake became cloudy away from the inlet. The coves over on the west side were less affected. There is boat only access over there.

Wheeler does settle out quickly though.

The last two times I have fished it, it has been very slow (from the bank) and boats report the same.

I think what has happened is that all of the vegetation on the lake, and it has a lot, grew to its normal height before all of the rain, and one could fish along the inside or outside edge of it very effectively. Now that the water is 6 or so feet higher, the vegetation is all submerged for the time being. And, it is farther out. It makes it tough to fish the inside or outside edge or even see it.

I don't know the science behind this but when a lake gets that much water that quickly, I think fish that want to be in 5' of water and now find themselves in 10' start moving around, jockeying for new positions. And, the fish just feel more dispersed. Maybe sort of analogous to one of those glass Christmas globes you shake and watch the snow flakes settle down. It is hard to develop much of a pattern from that.

I bet it gets good again once it dries up a bit and things settle down for the summer.
