The fishing around here has remained pretty steady for us despite the crazy weather this spring has brought. The majority of the fish we've been catching are still coming in shallow water but this week a good wave of them moved out deep and that bite is going to start to be a major player in the coming weeks.
Here is a report on the lakes we have been fishing.

Cypress Springs/ Bob Sandlin: We have been targeting flooded grass on secondary points and around channel swings and ditches leading to the main lake. The best baits have been hollow belly frogs, both walking and popping styles, mardi gras flukes with a nail weight and a black neon or kill shot smash bug on a 3/8 oz tungstun weight. Sunny days are positioning the fish on the inside edge of the grass and cloudy days around the outside edges. The deep bite has picked up this week and we have been catching good numbers of fish in 15-25 ft on carolina rigged flukes, 3/4 oz santone football jigs in mexican heather with a twin tail grub trailer, smash tech stroker shad swimbaits on a santone S3 head in green gizzard, and chartruse and blue back 6 XD and 8 XD crankbaits.

Monticello: The morning bite has been strong on walking style top water baits and yellow magics on secondary points with grass. We have also been catching some on frogs and flukes in the same areas later in the day. There have been a few fish that have moved out deep and we are catching them on carolina rigged flukes and swimbaits. We have also caught some nice fish flipping grass with a 1 oz punch rig with a smash bug in kill shot.

Pines: The fish are really scattered right now but have been biting well. The key for us has been finding mixtures of different grass types and slowing down in the stretches where we get bit. The best baits have been flukes, santone swim jigs in river bream with a smash tail jr. trailer, black walking style frogs and 1 oz punch rigs with a june bug red smash bug. Both ends of the lake have been productive for us and there are a few fish moving out in to the river channel and deep structure, but the shallow bite has still been the most consistent.

I have 5/20, 5/22, 5/26, 5/27 and 5/29 open and am starting to fill up June if you're looking to book a guided trip!

Hope this report helps you out on your next trip to the lake!

Man Jay, you'll let just about anybody in your boat. You might want to start running background checks before you agree to take some of these guys out...

Keep up the good work though. Spoke with some of your recent clients (possibly pictured, but I would absolutely deny knowing them in a court of law grin ) and they had great things to say about you and the work you do. Great job.
