so I bought a rain jacket and bib at academy on Kirby in February, first time out the jacket zipper breaks and the zipper is shot. I went today to the store, and like most men, I don't have my receipt and I paid cash. The store manager ran the sku number on the jacket and tracked the purchase and agreed to give me store credit for the jacket. That in itself was pretty sweet.

I pulled a jacket off the rack marked for $69.00, which is a model down from the jacket I had purchased, and grabbed a few spinner baits. When I check out, the jacket price tag was $69.00, but the jacket had been marked down for clearance to $6.98. The clerk asked the manager if i should be charged the full price because it was an exchange, and the manager honored the UNMARKED clearance price of $6.98 and I ENDED UP WITH A NEW JACKET AND AN $80.00 CREDIT!!!!!!

All in all the first time i left any academy with the store owing me money.......

I wonder how long they can stay in business doing that? hmmm

Years and years. They have always been like that in my experience for the years I have used them. Great CS and stores. I have had a couple of times where they went above and beyond at their own doing.

In this case the jacket was obviously faulty and should have been replaced. Which sounds like happen to your satisfaction and them some.

BUT...just a burr under my personal saddle, now days good customer service = I got something for free which for whatever reason annoys me.

I was in Academy today buying line and passed by several sales clerks and not one even spoke to me let alone ask if they could help me find what I was looking for. I am not that old but I guess I am old fashioned. I don't need the help and would have likely declined an offer but the offer and personal touch you used to get at places seem long gone. Anyway again it is a personal thing.

Rant over!

See you on the lake and have a great day!

Academy has really made things right by me over the years, even when it wasn't 100% their fault. I bought a small outboard from them that I thought was fully assembled, first trip the prop spun off and left me literally up a creek. I should have made sure the pin was in the prop but it was my first outboard. They reimbursed me for the cost of a new prop and having it installed.

A few years later I bought a new Skeeter and when my TX numbers came in, I went to Academy and got a set of adhesive letters and numbers. I waited until the morning of tournament to put the stickers on (dumb) and then discovered it only had numbers and no letters. Of course, I get stopped by a game warden and get a lame ticket for not having my numbers displayed (even though it was just a few days too late) for $150, I complained to the manager at academy and he gave me a gift card for the full amount. I agree, I just about always shop academy first.

Profit will keep them in business. I like to trade there. Hope they stay around.

I have no problem ordering from Academy. Ive done it several times the past few months. The shipments might come in pieces since it comes from different stores depending on availability, but Ive had nothing but good experiences with them. Lately its been free shipping each time Ive ordered.

I also had one of their H2O jackets replaced in house over a failed zipper. They looked up my purchase and let me exchange with no questions.

Yeah so the manager knew he lacked the authority himself to do the deal and showed some initiative in calling a superior at another store to green light the exchange.......

He then did the right thing and honored the clearance price......i didnt get anything for free, i spent $99 on the original jacket.....i was made whole by a store that wants to keep my business......

I hope others will have a similar experience.

Academy has always treated me well. They had strike king tungsten marked at $.99 per pack. When I checked out they rang up at regular price. I pointed out they were marked $.99 and they honored the price on everyone I bought which was all they had on the shelf.
