Start of another year… and it’s the end of January already. WOW!

I’ve been waiting for the weather to give me an opportunity to get out and try my luck for 2018. Finally a window opened up this past weekend but had to drive a couple hours to find open water. Not sure if you all have to deal with frozen water but in central Illinois it is pretty common this time of year.

I went to a power plant lake called Sangchris Lake just south of Rochester, Illinois this past Saturday. You can only launch a boat in the hot arm ditch during waterfowl season. There were about a dozen other boats plus a few bank fishermen. The lake level was about 2 to 3 feet below normal pool and the water temp was in the low to mid 50’s. There were a lot of shad flipping on the surface. Weather wise it was sunny with temps in the high 40’s but the blowing wind made it chilly.

It didn’t take long after I launched to get that first bass of 2018. It weighed in at 1-3 lbs but I will take it. Ended up being a pretty good day with 32 bass caught plus several short strikes and a few lost fish. All fish were caught on one bait.

In this video I added some custom gauges that contained data that was collected using a GoPro 5 and a Lowrance HDS Gen 2 unit. Been working the past 2 weekends on some past data files to condense and combine the data into one file. I used a program called Dashware to create the gauges and video segments to build the final video using Windows Live Movie Maker

Let me know what you think!

Thanks!
