Which is better to put in and/or better to fish?
I have put in at McCown Valley and feel secure, but am not familiar with the other areas to put in on Whitney.

I would stay with mccowan. I have seen some pretty shady characters at the other 2 you listed.

Cedar. Fairly safe. Mid lake so easy to go any direction. Can fish close by if weather is rough.
