When you know that there are fish in the area, how long do ya'll let your bait sit unmoved when working any bottom contact bait? And about how long are you going to leave your bait in the water from cast to cast?

kinda just depends on what the fish are telling you. I have let a jig soak for up to 45sec and had some really good bites.

I've let baits soak while picking out backlashes. It works....sometimes. I wouldn't try to backlash every time though.

That's half the fun. Nothing like having 50yds of line laying on your deck then look up and see the bait taking off.

I cant tell you how many times I've let a big worm soak while picking out a backlash or sitting down to drink a bottle of water and when I lift up it feels heavy. With that said, I still don't work a worm really slow very often.

I used to be better at it when I still smoked, about 30 sec. to a minute is about all I can stand. A slow retrieve isn't as nerve racking to me.

I should have all my friends call me while I am fishing, cannot tell you how many fish i have caught while talking on the cell phone. I had a buddy who would light up a smoke and smoke most of the cig before he would move the bait, he caught some nice bass and he was not really a bass fisherman, moral of the story, I fish too fast.

About 2 sec. at most. I can't even fish a weightless senkos for more than a cast or 2. Slow isn't my thing and what's bad is I know it works

I just can't do it... I have had bites after picking out a backlash or reaching down to move a rod away from my feet but to just let it sit is darn near impossible for me!!

I've fished a weightless Senko in 17' of water on Perky before, found a big boulder on the edge of a grass line with my Sonar that was loaded up with fish, tried everything else on the deck without a bite picked up a rod with wacky Rigged Senko on it and just dropped straight down set back and let it fall until line went slack picked it up off bottom and slowly lifted the rod and it just doubled over
Caught 4 over 6 lbs in a hour off that 1 Rock
Patience pays off sometimes

in the winter time , I try to find rocks on points in 25-40 feet of water , tie on a weightless , wacky senko , --- wait 30-60 seconds for it to reach the bottom , only move it every 15-30 seconds a foot or two at a time ---deadly

I used to do that a lot back in the day; I guess now I'm just old and impatient... I'm certainly not doing it enough. May be a good reason why I used to catch a lot more fish back in the day.

Patience pays off sometimes It does work. My buddy will throw a wacky worm in 20+ feet and he's caught some nice ones doing it. I have to force myself to do it and unless I catch something quick I just can't stay with it. Maybe that's what I will work on

Thought: 4 rods. All wacky senko. Throw one, feed slack, lay on deck. Throw two, feed slack, lay on deck. Throw three, feed slack, lay on deck. Throw four, feed slack, lay on deck. Pick up one, twitch twice, lay on deck. repeat. That ought to keep the impatient ones busy and fish SLOW at the same time.
