You will get lots of opinions with this one but here is mine. Two different set ups. They both will be thrown on an irod Fred's magic stick with nothing less than a 7:1 gear ratio. The first is for grass. I like to throw it on 17 lb flourocarbon. I might get blasted for this but it works very well for me. The second.is on 50 lb braid around timber.

Dobyns XP744, 1/2oz swim jig, Keitech or rage tail craw as a trailer, 18lb Fluro for me. With at least a 7 gear ratio reel, I use that set up in all types of cover. But like already mentioned, you'll get a plethora of different options.

Another vote for the iRod. 1/2 oz swim jig with a Havoc Subwoofer trailer. Either all white or all green pumpkin, on 40# braid, high speed reel.

I use a 6-9 Kistler LTA with 15# test PLine CXX, 1/4-3/8 swim jig with either a baby rage craw, zoom speed vibe craw, or a keitech boot tail, high speed reel.
If I were going to use a heavier swim jig I would choose a different rod, longer and stronger.

For me, it depends where I'm throwing them. The trailers stay the same; and there's many that work well (see chatterbait trailer thread). I typically use baitfish colors, and probably under use black and blue with swim jigs. My favorite trailer is the Kicker Fish tail slapper (now discontinued, but there are a few other brands that are close)
Shallow (10ft or less) Thick grass and Lilly Pads: Rod: Falcon Heavy Bucoo 7'3" Jason Christie pitchin' stick. Reel: something in 7 or 8 speed to get the swim jig out of the cover quickly Line: 65# braid Lure: 3/4oz to 1oz swim jig green pumpkin or white
Deep (15ft+ Timber or brush along creek channel swings is ideal) Rod: Fenwick MH 7'6" Silver Hawk Reel: something in a 6 or 7 speed. Line: 50lb Power Pro super slick braid to 17# Pline CXX leader Lure: 1/2oz to 3/4oz swim jig shad, crappie, and blue gill colors

I like a 7'3", medhium-heavy, fast, with a 7.1:1 gear ratio, and 16-20lb fluorocarbon.

7' Falcon LowRider H with 7.1:1 ratio reel, and anywhere from 15-20lb fluoro depending on cover.
